Diplomacy for Brussels
2026-2027 project

From Brussels classrooms to New York

In 2026-2027, two final-year classes, one French-speaking and one Dutch-speaking, draft the questions they want to bring to the United Nations. A delegate of the association carries them to New York and puts them to identified interlocutors. A video brings the answers back to the pupils.

Why this project

A course explains. A mandate commits. When a class writes down what it wants to ask the UN, signs the document, and we come back with the answers, diplomacy stops being a subject : it becomes something you did.

The three phases of the project

In each class, two periods : an introductory course on diplomacy and the United Nations, then a workshop in which pupils collectively draft eight to twelve questions, rank three and formulate the position the association will defend on their behalf. The document leaves the classroom dated, signed by the pupils and countersigned by the teacher.

A delegate of the association travels to New York for the ECOSOC Youth Forum and for a meeting at the Permanent Mission of Belgium to the United Nations, complemented by meetings with the Delegation of the European Union and the UN Youth Office. The classes' questions are carried and put to these identified interlocutors. The whole mission is filmed.

On return, a video prepared with the answers obtained is sent to the pupils. We then come back to each class with the answers, and the association's annual gala, in Brussels at the end of May, presents the questions, the answers and the discussion they opened, with the video. Pupils and their schools are invited.

What we promise, and what we do not

We promise that every question will be carried to New York and put to identified interlocutors, and that pupils will receive the answers obtained, or the honest finding that none came. We do not promise that a question will be asked from the Forum floor : access to UN Headquarters depends on accreditations we do not control.
